"GULETS"
boatyard "GULETS & YACHTS"
The original Gulet has the rounded aft, but as this design limits the number of cabins which can be built in, the "Ayna Kic" (flat-backed) style of Gulet is becoming increasingly popular as a charter vessel. Traditionally they have been built in Bodrum area in Turkey and hence are referred to as "Bodrum-type" yachts or " Gulettes"; sometimes also referred to as 'Caiques'.

Turkish Gulets are gracious and elegant motor sailors built from pine in traditional fashion. Over the years Gulets have evolved from traditional crafts for fishing and transport into their present profile with a broad beam and wide deck. Modern Gulets are comfortably equipped with all of the amenities of home and encourage an environment in which you are expected to do nothing but enjoy yourself. They offer large living areas, wide sun decks, spacious cabins, WC/ showers and a sun aft deck furnished lounge area.

The closeness of the small group of people on board promotes an atmosphere of friendship and sharing; relations among passengers and crew tend to be relaxed and casual. Unlike cruises on large ocean liners, on a Gulet you can explore the secluded and often deserted bays and coves of the coastline. The small harbors and settlements offer an intimate view of coastal life which large ships cannot replicate authentically. In many ways a Gulet is like a full-service hotel where every room has a sea view and the scenery changes constantly.

During the summer months thousands of gulets sail around the Mediterranean and Aegean seas. The season starts in May and ends in October where they are chartered every week and under continual use and vulnerable to general wear and tear. It is because of this reason that during the winter months the gulets go into dry dock where the hard work begins. The captain and crew stay with their boat and strip all the wood of its old varnish and then re-varnish all wooden surfaces. The base of the boat is sanded to remove all scale and painted with a hard all-weather paint. All the furnishings are taken out of the gulet and kept in dry storage for the winter. Often the biggest job is the overall servicing of the engine, where every part is thoroughly examined. Basically the gulet is given one big face lift!!.
